Vintage Indie would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest sponsor Ruby. Ruby is an on-line magazine for women. I wanted to delve a little further into the spirit of which Ruby is founded and did so by interviewing Karen Gass, Editor in Chief.
Cover Page - Ruby November 2009
Who is Ruby for? Ruby is for women of all ages. We have a 15 different
departments in each issue of Ruby, and 15 editors in charge of each one. We
provide coloring pages for your kids, so you can have some free minutes to sit
and read your new copy! And a coloring page for Mom, cause we like to color too!
:) Paper dolls, cooking, puzzles, the home, a continuing story (new chapter in
each issue), hobbies, devotions, homeschool, a great section for us WAHM's, and
much more.
What is your vision for Ruby? To provide the support women
need, the comfort they want, some entertainment along the way, and information
on subjects they are interested in. We welcome reader participation. We love to
publish your favorite pictures, a poem or story that you wrote. We also have a
social networking site for Ruby subscribers. This is a private site, only
available to subscribers, so we are assured that 'strangers' don't show up
there. We feel free to share pictures of our kids and grandkids. We have
projects going on there - a stitchery BOM, some challenges, lots of chit chat,
tips and ideas, groups for nearly every department. It's fun!
What do
you have planned for Ruby for 2010? After just finishing our November 1 issue
which covered both Thanksgiving and Christmas, the editors and I made a decision
to provide a Thanksgiving issue AND a Christmas issue next year. It's just too
much good stuff for 1 issue! We also have blog projects planned, interviews,
give-aways, and contests - all happening on the blog. There will be mega
projects, challenges and fun things going on at Ruby Women, our social
networking site. The editors and I are excitedly planning for that!
Our hope and desire is to provide
a magazine that women love. We don't do things like gossip or diets or show you
the must have skinny jeans this year, or advertise expensive creams or jewelry.
There are NO ads in Ruby, except for WAHM ads and those are free! In
deciding on a selling price, we figured our budget to the penny. So, that
each editor gets paid, and a little per issue for things like advertising and
marketing, then we gave that price to each issue. $2.75 an issue, for more or
less 100 pages of truly awesome magazine AND about 60 pages of printable
downloads. That's a lot of value! A 6 issue subscription costs 11.75, again,
figured the same way. Money is tight everywhere these days, but we still need a
little something for ourselves. This is an affordable 'something for yourself'.
:)
You can subscribe to Ruby by visiting their blog. Their November issue has just launched. Thank you again, to Karen Gass and Ruby for your sponsorship, here at Vintage Indie.
