I recently had the opportunity to review Julep Maven and I was pretty excited about it, due to not wearing fingernail polish on my fingers for several years.
What exactly is Julep Maven you ask?
" As a Julep Maven, you will have access to the hottest trends in nail color and the latest Mani Care and Pedi Care products - delivered right to your doorstep, just like the beauty editors do. And you'll have access to these trends and products before anyone else."
You could probably guess that I don't wear a lot of polish due to the chemicals and the previous practice of formaldehyde (and current practice). So before I agreed to review the products I had to ask a few questions:
VI - I'm very conscience of the products I publish on Vintage Indie. Most are approved by the Environmental Working Group, Skin Deep Cosmetics Database. Do you have any products that fit into the green living, organic, eco-friendly or natural categories?
Julep Maven - I am want to inform you, that I think you’ll be happy to hear Julep products are free of DBP, toluene, formaldehyde and formaldehyde resin. We also do not test on animals, or use animal or animal by products in any of our formulas.
So with that, I gave Julep Maven a green light. I received in the mail a "Classic With a Twist" Maven Box. It included two polishes, a Facial for your Hands, SPF Hand Cream and Glow on Age Defying Hand Brightener.
The polish no doubt were beautiful colors. I'm one of those people who can hardly decide when there are so many to choose from, Julep Maven picked for me and I was completely pleased. I was truly hoping for a polish that was "scent" free. I'm not sure if that concept even exists, but these seem to carry the same strong scent as any other polishes I've used in years past.
How did they hold up? So glad you asked. As a momma with two kiddos, I'm always washing and cleaning something. I'm happy to report that my two layers of polish with no top coat lasted a few days. I feel if I would have had the top coat that they could have easily lasted longer. As far as removal, I used regular old nail polish remover. I'm not sure if a healthier one exists. Either way, taking off the polish was a breeze.
As far as the hand creams and facial for your hands, I didn't get around to sampling the hand brighteners, not sure if I need that as we just came back from a trip to the Caribbean and my hands are still sporting a tan. SPF isn't exactly needed at the moment, but when the sun shows itself I'll be glad to report back for you on the SPF hand cream. The Facial for your hands was wonderful, especially for me as I tend to dry out a lot in the winter. It sloughed away the dead skin and provided a lovely moisturizer. As far as the natural and organic nature of the products, I don't really have much to say about that. They aren't listed on the Skin Deep cosmetic database, but I've encouraged them to do so, as I really like the concept behind Julep Maven.
