Tis' the season to support local businesses. Now is the time they need your hard earned money more than ever. They're competing with the big guys and most of the time have so much more to offer.

Carabello Owners (1)

Husband and wife team, Justin and Emily Carabello have recently opened their brick and mortar Roasting Works and Craft Coffee Bar in Newport, Ky.

Carabello 2

They're doing amazing things there, like hand crafting out of this world cappuccinos. I could have stayed there and sipped their delicious brews all day.

Carabello (1)

They're not just brewing yummy coffee though, they're giving back by sending much of their profits to benefit coffee regions in Kenya, and Nicaragua. You don't find dedication and commitment to the source  for many products like this. It is truly refreshing to see Justin, pursue his passions all while helping others and delivering fantastic coffee. I

I can't wait until my summer craving for coffee starts! They're the first to offer cold-brew coffee on draft. I can already feel my taste buds starting to twinge.

Enjoy &  Shop Local!

Visit  Carabello Coffee Roasting Works & Craft Coffee Bar  at 107 E. 9th St. in Newport, KY. Hours are: Tues. - Fri. 7am - 8pm, Sat. 8a-8p. Not local? Visit their online store. Their brews are a must read! The stories you can tell about your coffee will warm your heart.

While you're there, pick up some local coffee for Christmas gifts this year! Your friends and family will love you.

Art Stories: Interview with Anja Fallan

Art Stories

Vintage Indie would like to welcome, as our featured artist,  Anja Fallan.  Anja is creating beautiful  artwork in London, England

Anja

AnjaFallan4

What is your preferred medium? Ink, watercolour and sometimes charcoal.

How did you get started?  I've loved painting ever since I was a child. But it was first after I attended drawing and painting classes at the age of 16, that my love for creating art was seeded. The school I went to was in the attic of an enchanting old building in Oslo, with huge windows letting in a lo of natural light. It felt so magical to be there and work with colours and big white canvases. From that time I knew that this was something I would do for life.

AnjaFallan2Who or what inspires you? I get inspiration from the every day small wonders which can be everything from going on walks in nature, or sitting at a cafe watching busy city life pass by.

AnjaFallan3What advice would you give to someone wanting to get into this medium? Practice practice practice. What ever style you wish to use to express yourself practice is the key.

Does vintage play a role in your art or life? If so, how? I love vintage and a lot of my painting are a based on nostalgia.

What is important for your customer to know about your work?  That it is made with love .

A special thank you to Anja for your time.

Organic & Whole Living: Recipe Crook Neck Squash & Spinach Side Dish

I would like to be completely honest here. Crookneck squash has never been my favorite, to me it has a bland and kind of off taste. Until I made this recipe, I didn't make it very often. After one bite I was hooked on crook neck squash. If you're looking for something different and healthy for a new Thanksgiving side dish, why not try this.
October2013 009
You will need:
2-3 Medium Yellow Crookneck Squash Sliced into half moons and then again.
1 Cup of Frozen Chopped Spinach or 2 cups of fresh
1-2T of Coconut Oil
1 Clove of Garlic minced
1tsp. of oregano
Pink Salt & Pepper to taste.
Directions:
In a medium to large saute pan, bring the coconut oil up to medium to medium high heat. Add the squash and saute until just starting to soften. Next, add the spinach, minced garlic and seasonings. Contiue to saute until the spinach gets slightly crispy and the squash begins to brown slightly.
See how easy that was!
Serves 4
Serve warm and enjoy.
Happy Cooking!
