The Cheese Fest Cincinnati Saturday September 9th 2-10pm & a Giveaway!

I can't believe that it's almost time for The Cheese Fest right here in Cincinnati! What?! You haven't heard of The biggest festival in our region celebrating all things cheese? The Cheese Fest, presented by Murray's Cheese, New York's most iconic cheese shop, is proud to bring you the best in everything cheese. Murray's Cheese just happens to be my absolute favorite company of fine artisinal cheeses, but there are so many to choose from, you must go check it out for yourself.

Imagine stacks of cheese, little nibbles of square, round, triangle and flat out melty goodness, for a full day of fun at only $10.00 general admission. With your ticket you can get unlimited samples of 300+ delicious domestic and imported artisan cheeses and various other specialty foods. We picked up some hot pickled okra last year that was so crunchy and delicious.

Not only that, purchase a pairing ticket for an additional $10.00, and get first hand knowledge from the cheese makers themselves on the perfect way to pair wine, beer, bourbon or champagne. You'll come out on the other side, prepared and ready to host your own cheese tasting, so much fun! Be sure to add this ticket to your cart as these special sessions are first come first serve.  Cash bars will also be available for all other beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.

Kids also love The Cheese Fest, especially the Macdown/Meltdown competition where local restaurants compete to offer you the most delicious in mac and cheese where they'll get to vote on their favorites right along side you.

Smale Riverfront Park is where it is, and you'll get to enjoy our great city, live music, a photo booth and so much cheese!

Last, but certainly not least, and new for this year The Cheese Twins  (from The Great Food Truck Race) will be there educating you on all things cheese during their cooking demos.

How would you like to go? Vintage Indie is giving away one person and a guest tickets to The Cheese Fest, along with a paring of your choice!

The Best Podcasts for kids & family!

This year we have been very purposeful in limiting the amount of time our kids spend watching television or on electronic devices. I don't know about you, but they started to become something of a habit around here instead of a useful tool. In order to simplify we removed the T.V. from our play room, and set up specific times of online time. This includes anything that requires them to visually watch a screen.

FavoritePodcastsForKidsandFamily

After the first few months of this rather painful step for our kids, we started to notice a huge improvement in overall focus, and emotional connection to their surroundings. Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to preach another too much screen time to you. You do what you feel works best in the rhythm of your family.

At times our youngest (now five) likes to watch something educational while she's coloring or playing. In order to stop this habit of always needing the screen again, we've started playing podcasts for her that she absolutely adores. Our middle child (twelve) has found himself plugged into head phones while he listens to a podcast as well, making chores a little more enjoyable. As time has gone on, our oldest (fifteen) is starting to catch on and listen as well. Most of the time they're learning something while listening.

We also adore audio books around here, but I'll save that post for later.

When to listen?

 - In the car!

 - While doing chores.

 - While mowing grass (one headphone in and one out for safety)

 - While building and creating.

 - While working on an art project.
