Oh Fall you're finally here! Time to slip on a pair of cozy stockings, bundle up and enjoy the chill in the air. Along with warm cider, fuzzy blankets and pumpkin everything, one of the things I love most about the cooler weather is layering. Yes ladies, heaps and heaps of layering!
Here are a few of my favorite things to layer:
Plaid on plaid. Mixing plaids is one of my favorite things to do at the moment. It's best to keep your plaids in the same color range and go for mixing the larger and smaller patterns.
Lace and velvet. Probably the sweetest layering a gal could ask
for. Whether it's brown lace tights with a pair of burgundy velvet Mary
Janes or a black lacy shift with an emerald green velvet cape, it's a
look that screams I'm a lady.

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to show off the pure talent that is Casey of Casey Brown Designs and Casey's Elegant Musings. Recently she wrote on her blog, dreams of creating a ball gown. A vintage style Aubrey Hepburn donned in Sabrina, to attend her husbands military ball.
Check her out, decked in head to toe with her completed gown! Can you believe it? When I seen this on her blog, I new I had to share. Wouldn't you love a dress like that? I'll take two please!
I was looking for a style similar to this so long ago for my wedding and had no such luck for my bridesmaids. They did wear a similar style without the back. This is truly vintage style done right. If you'd like to hear more about how Casey designed this dress or the unexpected photo shoot at the ball, head over to Casey's Musings for more.
Enjoy!
There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the new Julia & Julia movie. I myself haven't seen the film, but I am reading My Life in France by Julia Child. The book is charming and has me imagining myself in the depths of Pairs, really getting to know my inner chef. I thought it would be fun to publish a look inspired by Julia Child.
This entire look was created with pieces from Posies for Lulu
I have fond memories of Julia Child growing up. We never had cable, and public education channels always had lovely cooking shows on. I remember waking up early Saturday mornings so I could catch Julia and the Frugal Gourmet.
Have you seen the movie? Don't spoil it, just let us know if you give it a thumbs up or down.

We've shown you all kinds of Vintage Fashion Forward ideas here on Vintage Indie, but today we are going to the street. Today's Street Style Profile comes from Roxy of Miami Beach.
What do you like to call your vintage/modern style?
I
never know what to call my style since it is ever changing.I have
always felt that my style was hippie chic. I love casual shirts, bell
bottoms jeans, and headbands.
Look #1 I love this look because it is comfortable and warm! The furry
top is 80s vintage and I paired it with some diy jeans. Bleaching the
jeans is simple, and the end result is really cool. I just spent a
couple of hours in my bathtub with a spray bottle with bleach and,
voila! The jeans are really versatile as well as the top. The tan boots
are vintage and go with pretty much everything I own.
What are your favorite ways to incorporate vintage fashion into your style?
Look#2 This look is elegant yet laid back. The sequin top was an
amazing vintage find. I paired it with some black leggings, and vintage
studded boots I bought on a trip to Amsterdam. I absolutely love the
sequins on the top and how they are placed. It is unique beautiful
vintage pieces like these that I feel girls should have in their
closet.
Look#3 The floppy hat was really popular this season, I found this
one at a H&M. The dress, vest and boots are all vintage. This look
is trendy and all pieces are great for layering. You can pair the
vintage leather vest with jeans, skirts, and dresses. I love when I
find staple pieces I can incorporate to my wardrobe every day.
Do you have any suggestions for those who are getting into mixing and matching vintage and new?
Experiment and wear what you love. I always look on fashion blogs and magazines for inspiration. Finding your own vintage style icon helps too. A lot of designers incorporate vintage reproductions into their lines so maybe your favorites have done this as well.
A special thanks to Roxy for sharing her Street Style with us. Roxy is also the proprietor of Punkv0uge clothing shop which she calls "Hippie Chic" Head over to find looks similar to her very own street style.
We've shown you all kinds of Vintage Fashion Forward ideas here on Vintage Indie, but today we are going to the street. Today's Street Style Profile comes from Magdalene from RETROMUS-IK.
What do you like to call your vintage/modern style?
My term of preference would be the oxymoron "throwback novelty". A modern twist on old clothes.
What are your favorite ways to incorporate vintage fashion into your style?
My favorite way to incorporate vintage fashion into my look would be by
wearing a vintage dress with more modern accessories. I adore wearing
dresses, and I love being unique without worrying that someone is
wearing the same outfit as me. I also like pairing a loud vintage shirt
with a simple pair of skinny jeans.
Do you have any suggestions for those who are getting into mixing and matching vintage and new?
Have fun mixing would be my number one advice! Invent yourself a
character: for instance, I said to myself one day that I wanted my
outfit to scream "career woman who wants to look classy yet sexy". So.
I put on my red vintage dress, wore my black pumps from Payless ShoeSource®, and
put on my leopard print bracelet my good friend brought me back from
Mali.
A special thanks to Magdalene for showing us her street style, mixing vintage with new. If you'd like to share your street style with us, please send your submissions to our email! We can't wait to see your street style.

There are some styles that are classics, looks that can go from era to era and still be sensational. These can be anything from the perfect little black dress to an avant garde couture piece. If you wear vintage clothing you are undoubtedly aware of this, however some people are still under the impression that vintage clothing can’t be modern looking, and can’t fit into this season’s fashions, unless the fashionable look is vintage inspired. However, Tialey Vintage wants everyone to know that you can do vintage without looking like June Cleaver.

Here is a look straight off the runway from Michael Kors fall collection.
Vintage Fashion Forward - We recreated this look using all vintage items, from all different eras, can you tell the difference between the vintage and designer look? You will be a fashionista in every way if you can learn to mix vintage and modern pieces for a variety of looks.
Tialey Vintage is here to inspire your style because the future of fashion is recycling the past.

Fashion comes from all sorts of inspiration. We talked with Anisa Makhoul the designer behind Makool on her inspiration and how vintage plays a role in her line.
1. What inspires your clothing design?
Anisa -" Horses, feathered hair, singing in the rain, marshmallows, panda bears,
semi trucks, pontoon boats, mates of state, puffy stickers, secret love
notes, well dressed toddlers, ballerinas, folk tales, castles, bonde do
role, old european cities, yellow submarines, cottages, bicycles,
smokey the bear, danish modern design, chocolate, feeling really good
inside, clouds, Mr. Peanut, paper boats, birds, and roller skating!"
How is that for inspiration!
Above is some of the latest fashions from Makool. Top Left Annie and Alvy Top Top Right Organic Ottodulf Smock. Rust Herringbone Petticoat Bag.
2. How does vintage play a role in your line?
Anisa - Sometimes I go to the antique mall in Sellwood, (it's huge like 4
buildings worth) just to stroll and be inspired. A new dress I'm
working on for summer is completely inspired by one of those old travel
tea towels from England. Going to the antique mall helps me with print,
I find that there are a lot of iconic images there
Thanks to Anisa for an inside look at Makool, be sure to visit their website along with their Etsy shop.

Today's collection of fabulous vintage and modern accessories comes from one of my favorite shops ModCloth. Love those Mustard Knit Flats? Grab them while you can, they are on sale now.
Vintage Indie would like to welcome you to the latest Fashion Forward Feature. The lovely and talented Robin Hand from Gilded Cage Design, is here as our special guest. A talented artist and designer herself, she'll give us an inside look into the history and life of the Cloche, that continues today as a fashion style icon.
Cloche, the French word for bell best describes the iconic
style hat of the 1920’s. While the
cloche hat invokes images of carefree bobbed haired flappers, the hat was
actually worn as early as 1910 and continued into the 1930’s. As with all great design, the Cloche evolved
from a looser fitting, larger brimmed variety of the Edwardian period to the
extremely close fit of the middle 20’s. The bell shaped hat now conformed so tightly to the head, it made a
bobbed haircut necessary. The Cloche hat of the 1920’s was intended to be worn low on the brow nearly covering the
eyes. This required the wearer to tilt the head slightly
back in order to see in front of her. This exaggerated posture caused one to look at the world from down the
end of the nose.
Cloche hats were made from a variety of different material with the most common being wool felt. Felt was utilized in the hats mass production for its ease in conforming to the bell shaped form. Typically, the hat’s surface decoration was kept to a minimum and was held to one side. That side most often was on the right. Feathers, simple bands, flowers and art deco appliqué were popular embellishments. Many women applied their own style through the use of a brooch or diamond clip for adornment.
This hat became so popular that many couture houses opened atelier shops. These new hat shops allowed customers to purchase complete ensembles from one source.
Thanks again Robin for a fascinating look into this timeless accessory. Head over to Gilded Cage Design for an amazing line of accessories and Victorian inspired handcrafted items from Robin.
Vintage Indie Welcomes Cloak and Muff Vintage shop owner Sandy, celebrating the uniqueness of vintage and what it offers for today's trends & styles!
A bygone era where men were men and women new how to bake a chocolate cake.
Vintage to me congers up a flavor and dimension of color, charm and history. When I slip on my vintage
grass green wool winter coat I wonder who had the character and charisma to wear this beauty in its
hay day. I envision a bombshell blond with flaming red lips and a flashing smile dashing out the door to
hop in her pals convertible for a swinging night at the jazz club. Cloak
and Muff Vintage celebrates the unique quality that vintage has to
offer and the history each and every garment holds for the customer.
When I spotted this little black number I snapped it up with
every intention to name the piece "Sophia Loren". Envisioning in my mind the sweet smell of a hot summer
night, sitting in an outdoor cafe, sipping wine, looking gorgeous and having all eyes on you.
Part
of shopping for vintage is not only the hunt and the find but also the
reclaiming of it for yourself. There are no hard and fast rules to
wearing it. What it important is how it makes you feel and how it
celebrates your individuality. In a day and age where chain retail
stores and cheap market togs have taken over, vintage seems to be the
way to go if you are looking for quality and attention to detail.
"Mans the Man" is the beautiful wool winter coat that I see on a well dressed yet ruggedly handsome
gentleman taking his lady friend out to the theater after a good meal.
Unleash the vixen in you with this blood red grip. Pair it with some red nails and a tight black pencil skirt for a hot night on the town!
At Cloak and Muff Vintage we strive to make vintage accessible to everyone. Enjoy!
A Special thanks to Sandy from Cloak and Muff Vintage for this special celebrating vintage!
