The Daily Swank - Bicycle Art

Did I tell you about the gorgeous vintage bike I landed last year? Complete with it's original basket, I was in a dreamy state of bliss for the last few months of warm air. I really do need to show it to you. Today's Daily swank reminded me of my bike and reminded me I need to get it out of storage, it's almost riding time!

2bicycle I recently spoke with the artist Taliah Lempert behind these paintings about what made her decide to start painting bicycles in the first place.

"My paintings of bicycles are a long term project in it’s 12th year.It started when I began commuting by bike and fell in love with mine.My bike was so awesome I couldn’t help but make it the subject. Then I started painting my friend’s bikes and it grew from there.

Painting pictures of bicycles satisfies what I want to say. Structurally beautiful and symbolically positive, I love how a bicycle relates to the figure & exploring what each is specifically the person who rides it.

Fleet6bicycle

Most bikes I paint are, or have been, used daily for transportation, messenger work and/or for racing. They are worn and customized uniquely, being at once a specific bike and a collective symbol of empowerment.

Most of the bikes in my pictures are vintage, I like painting used bikes."

The Daily Swank - Through the Viewfinder

If you only knew about my slight addiction to photography and ecspecially photography "Through the Viewfinder". Maybe I'm just out of the loop in photography land, but it seems as this style is showing it's face more and more, which is a really good thing for me, but not my pocketbook. Today's Daily Swank is one of my favorites, there were so many beautiful images to choose from but I narrowed it down to some of the more antique shots.

Appreciating antique and vintage bottles are something that I'm sure a lot of the vintage lovers out there do. I've seen some pretty amazing collection and seen them popping up in interior design everywhere. What a better way to work them into your home than with this gorgeous Antique Bottle Print from ScarletBeautiful2.

VI Headliner - Glitter and Grunge

Glitterandgrungead Vintage Indie's Featured sponsor Glitter and Grunge is back with a special announcement and a look at a couple more artists from their wonderful site.

Vintage Indie - Any special announcements, upcoming events coming up?

Glitter and Grunge -  We are partnering with Handmade Parade this spring to offer a whole new side to the artists co-op. We'll be introducing a pattern and kit site where our members can sell their original patterns and create kits for people to make their own versions of some of our members signature items. DIY is such a phenomenon right now. Our customers not only enjoy buying finished pieces by our members, they want to be a part of the creations. They want to get their hands dirty and create along with us and we want to help them.

Handmade Parade has been a regional craft fair in Sacramento, but now we are going to be taking the craft fair to the next level and in the next year or so we will be planning an event where crafters can come together and sell their wares, but also learn how to do different things from printing, sewing, fiber arts and more. We are still in the planning stages of this (and the fact that I am now 5 months pregnant with my third child) so our time line is a bit fuzzy. I wanted to shoot for the fall and just tote the little one along, but my husband wasn't as keen on that as I was, hahaha!

Babies or not, we have some really exciting things planned for the coming year!

The Daily Swank - Everyday Moments

Catch a glimpse of Jen's Everyday Moments, with today's Daily Swank.

Everydaymoments_1
No Use Crying Over Spilled Coffee is the title of this very cool print from everydaymoments. Simplicity is found in an old school restaurant sign, and art is created with a "special vintage tweaking" and well....spilled coffee.

Everydaymoments_2

The colors just popped for me in this Late Lunch Date print, and spark some serious fun. Makes you want to drive to the old school diner in your town and share a... what else " everyday moment"!

The Daily Swank - DripStick Art

I have to say when I came across today's Daily Swank I fell in love. I keep meaning to show you my master bedroom makeover but all of these things keep coming up like DripStick Art. I have three decorating personalities, art deco-ish, art nouveau-ish & shabby chic-ish it's finding a balance within those three that I have trouble with. I think DripStick taps into my art deco-ish personality with their artwork.

Dripstickart1_3

From their French Box Label series - Lemon. I'm in love with the rich color and the vintage appeal to this print by artist Joshua Martens. A set from this series would go perfectly in my kitchen & yours!

The Daily Swank - GALERIE DE ILLUMINATA

You know that feeling when a piece of artwork speaks to you. You know, your browsing your local museum and you see all of these people starring at a piece of art and you can't understand why. Then you walk closer, you get a better look and then find yourself in that same state... standing there just starring. That's how I felt when I came across Galerie de Illuminata. Artist Mikel Robinson is a self trained artist from North Carolina who specializes in mixed media art.

Red_tree_landscape_galerie_de_ill_2

There is just something about these trees that I love. This particular one is called Red Tree Landscape. I adore the clouds in this piece of art, and the vintage feel that each piece has.

Evening_galerie_de_illuminata_2

How about this one, called Evening. Isn't it gorgeous and the warm hues of golds and the details of the birds. It reminds me of late night summers on the farm growing up.

There is so much more to view of Mikel's work you can visit his website and online gallery & you can also visit him on Etsy. What a great opportunity to support and indie artist all while filling your home with gorgeous art.
