The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati presents CINDERELLA

A special thanks to The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati for sponsoring this post and giveaway.

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati presents CINDERELLA December 9-18, 2017 at the Taft Theatre.  This isn’t your mother’s (or your grandmother’s) Cinderella. Boys as well as girls will love all of the audience participation, side-splitting humor, and outlandish characters in this classic fairytale set to popular music. I know we're excited to see something a little different for Cinderella.

Adapted by John B. Davidson, featuring original Music by Victor Zupanc. Based on the Fairytale by Charles Perrault.  Produced by special arrangement with Plays for Young Audiences.

Cinderella Children's Theatre Cincinnati

CINDERELLA will be performed as a holiday “panto,” which means this classic, rags-to-riches story has been turned on its head and cleverly staged to entertain everyone from children to adults.  Featuring:

  • Interactive audience participation
  • Slapstick comedy
  • Cross-dressing characters
  • Fantastic dance numbers
  • Modern music from Adele, to Walk the Moon, to Whitney Houston

“You won’t find another Cinderella quite like this in Cincinnati!” says Roderick Justice, Producing Artistic Director for The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati and director/choreographer of TCT’s CINDERELLA production. “We look forward to bringing something fresh and new to the Taft Theatre stage that will delight children and adults during the holiday season.”

 Cinderella Late

In this hilarious holiday panto, you’ll jeer at the deliciously dysfunctional stepmother and sisters as much as you’ll cheer for Cinderella in her quest to attend the magnificent Christmas ball. Join TCT this winter to celebrate a Cinderella Christmas.

CINDERELLA presented by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, December 9-18, 2017.  Saturday, December 9 at 2 PM* (this performance is signed for the hearing impaired), Sunday, December 10 at 2 PMSunday, December 10 at 5 PMFriday, December 15 at 7:30 PMSaturday, December 16 at 2 PM, Saturday, December at 5 PMSunday, December 17 at 2 PM at the Taft Theatre, 5th and Sycamore Streets in Downtown Cincinnati. Finding Neverland on Broadway Cincinnati!

We simply adore Broadway here at Vintage Indie. Especially stories that tell the history behind famous musicians and ones like Finding Neverland that tell the story of J.M. Barrie, the man and writer, behind Peter Pan.

"Based on the Academy Award-winning Miramax motion picture by David Magee, and the play The Man Who Was Peter Pan by Allan KneeFinding Neverland follows the relationship between playwright J.M. Barrie and the family that inspired Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up – one of the most beloved stories of all time. Directed by Tony®-winner Diane Paulus (PippinHair) with book by Olivier Award®-nominee James Graham, music and lyrics by Gary Barlow (Take That) and Grammy Award®- winner Eliot Kennedy, and choreography by Emmy Award®-winner Mia Michaels (“So You Think You Can Dance,” Cirque du Soleil’s Delirium), this new musical, packed with mesmerizing visuals, irresistible songs and plenty of laughs, is a timeless story about the power of imagination… and spectacular proof that you never really have to grow up."

Much like last night's audience you may find yourself falling for J.M. Barrie's dog Porthos who was originally a St. Bernard. Porthos was quite the attraction on stage, and is the reason J.M. Barrie came to know the Llewelyn Davies' boys.

Peter Pan Jr. in Cincinnati! Presented by The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati

A special thanks to The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati for sponsoring this post and giveaway.

Are you ready for another season of fantastic theatre performances by the Cincinnati Children's Theatre? If so, I've got some exciting news! They're gearing up for the season, and kicking it off with an arrrrrrguably fantastic show! Peter Pan Jr.

In Peter Pan Jr. Wendy, Michael and John Darling meet and befriend Peter Pan when the mysterious boy and a fairy named Tinker Bell enter their nursery in search of Peter’s lost shadow.

17-18 PHOTOSHOOT Peter Pan Sit_preview

Peter whisks his new friends away to Neverland, an island with “hardly any space between one adventure and the other.” There, Peter introduces the Darling children to his fellow Lost Boys, children who – like Peter – never grow up. The crew launches into a great adventure where they encounter Brave Girls, led by the incredible Tiger Lily, and Pirates led by the dreaded Captain Hook, played by Local 12’s own Bob Herzog. Challenges ensue when the Darling children are ensnared in Captain Hook’s sinister plan to seek revenge on Peter.

17-18 PHOTOSHOOT Hook Wendy Pan_preview

I hear Captain Hook is going to be played by Bob Herzog of Channel 12 news, and word on the ship is that he's hysterically funny, and shouldn't be missed.

We're excited because this year, we get to take daddy to every performance. It's such a great family night out, and a great way to see our great city.

The Illusionists Live from Broadway Cincinnati ends tonight! March 26, 2017

Don't miss your opportunity to see The Illusionists Live From Broadway Cincinnati! This show closes today March 26, 2017 Tickets are available for 1:00 and 6:00pm tonight!

The Illusionists Live from Broadway Cincinnati

The Illusionists whisks your mind away to a place it's never been before. The high energy, entertaining two hour show is mind bending, baffling, and downright crazy. You've got to see it for yourself to believe it. The show is  interactive with the crowd, and keeps you involved and entertained from the start.

I recommend taking your kids 6+ older to this show if they can handle suspense, and sometimes eye covering acts that could be a bit much for the squeamish.

Kevin James The Inventor in The Illusionists Live
Kevin James The Inventor Production photos of The Illusionists—Live From Broadway

Kevin James The Inventor above, has a child-like way with magic. He enjoys seeing the joy and disbelief of his audience and captures your attention with amazing feats of things happening right before your eyes.

He brought a little girl from the audience to capture her imagination, and amazed the entire crowd. He doesn't stop though with innocent illusions. he cuts a man in half. A classic that will leave you questioning everything.

Dan Sperry (The Anti-Conjuror) in The Illusionists—Live From Broadway
Dan Sperry (The Anti-Conjuror) in The Illusionists—Live From Broadway

Dan Sperry, The Anti-Conjuror brings his dry sense of humor, and his mysterious illusions to some of the classics of magic. His performance includes a rabbit, and some birds in his very own special way. He also performs some interesting illusions with his body that had me holding my hands over my face, and peeking through my fingers. Each time, bringing my jaw to a gaping hole of mystery.

Colin Cloud (The Deductionist) in The Illusionists—Live From Broadway
Colin Cloud (The Deductionist) in The Illusionists—Live From Broadway

Lastly for my review, I'm highlighting Colin Cloud The Deductionist. Another favorite of mine and my husbands. We aren't quite sure how he does it, but he involves the entire audience into a mind-bending performance that questions your educational abilities on every level.

His way with numbers, and reading people is something you've only seen in the movies. I'm glad that we got to experience this live and in person. I only wish that our teens were able to join us for the show. They would have been amazed.

Don't wait! Today, and this evening are your last chance to see The Illusionists Live on Broadway at the beautiful Aronoff Center in downtown Cincinnati.

Disney's The Little Mermaid Broadway in Cincinnati

Little Mermaid Cincinnati

A childhood classic, Disney's The Little Mermaid comes to life through Broadway Cincinnati.

TheLittleMermaidCincinnatiBroadway

This show was anything but basic. Our first time ever to see a Broadway show, and I'm so glad it was Disney's The Little Mermaid. Our daughter, four years old, sat through the entire performance in awe of what was happening on stage. From the gorgeous costumes, to the enchanting lighting and sound effects, Cincinnati's Broadway whisks you away to a magical underwater world full of delight and wonder. The only thing she kept saying was wow mommy, this is so neat. My husband who has also never been to a Broadway show was also hooked. He enjoyed it very much, and is looking forward to future shows.

The show's cast and creative team, knew what they were doing when the created this show. No attention to detail was left out and the most wonderful soothing voices were presented on stage. Ursula was simply amazing, her character is witty, and quite bold, with a After the show our daughter chatted our ears off the entire way home, she loved everything.

Alice & Wonderland The Musical with the Cincinnati Children's Theatre: Enter to Win!

With my oldest child turning fifteen, I'm a beliver in more memories and less stuff more than ever before. We still have a preschooler, who has too much stuff. Don't get me wrong we're still working on it.

The older two have too much stuff as well, and I find them downsizing the junk when they start to get overwhelmed.  If you were to sit down and talk with them about their favorite things, they'll more than likely tell you about a trip we took, or an event we attended. They both have fond memories of visiting the Cincinnati Children's Theatre, and still like it as a teen and pre-teen. Now they're excited to take along their little sister, and see how she reacts to the scenes unfolding.

Since 1924 The Cincinnati Children's Theatre has been aiming to bring smiles and the wonders of the theatre to children across the Greater Cincinnati Area. Kings Island with Teens and Tweens

Kings Island, why did I wait so long to come and visit you? The last time my family and I visited Kings Island, was when my now 14 year old was in a stroller! Can you belive that? I'm so excited to share our recent expirence with you, because so much has changed since those days.

If you've never been, "Kings Island is located 21 miles north of Cincinnati off Interstate 71. The park's more than 100 world-class rides, shows and attractions are located within a two-hour drive of Columbus, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Louisville and Lexington, KY, and within five hours of cities like Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI, Pittsburgh, PA and Charleston, WV" So what's your excuse?

13741217_271790803176567_1783796818_n

This is us minus #thebeardedhunk who was driving. Kings Island or bust. I think I was more excited to head to Kings Island than these guys, our two sons and their friends. I was determined to get a full day in, no matter what the weather brought us. It was hot, really hot.

We filled up on breakfast before we left, so we could dive right in when we arrived. I also armed myself with some pain reliver, because you know roller coasters

So when we arrived we decided to hit up a new to us roller coaster, the Diamondback. "Diamondback is a high-speed steel roller coaster with a combination of banked turns and airtime humps." All I could say when we got off was WOW! I can't believe how smooth this ride is, I can't wait to do it again. Seriously though, it was so smooth and I didn't need anything for my typical roller coaster headache!

13652160_1012707702178301_1070196891_n

We decided (well mostly I talked them into it) that we should head to White Water Canyon since it was so close. My thoughts were, we would get wet, and that would help keep us cool the rest of the day. For me, it was perfect, I got fully soaked except for my shoes! Everyone else wasn't so lucky, but none the less, it was a relaxing five minutes and we had fun getting wet.

13706980_327641644244641_1539986352_n

This is my sweet little family. Those brave younger guys decided they would go on Firehawk, and they couldn't talk me into it. I mean you're basically hanging and FLYING!

"Firehawk is a flying roller coaster where riders experience three (3) inversions in a face-down position. Riders will experience high speeds, weightlessness, and rapid movements from side-to-side. A shoulder harness secures each rider over the shoulders and across the chest" So lucky them, the first time for my youngest son to ever ride roller coasters or the Firehawk, he and big brother rode on the front car! The very first one! There was no way this momma was riding on that, I mean I still have a sweet little girl at home.

Fast forward a few hours later, and it was probably my most favorite ride of the day. I don't think I've ever experinced anything like it. Nope, nada. If you go to Kings Island this smooth, and thrilling coaster must be on the top of your list. I'm so glad they talked me into riding it. I especially love that we have this fun memory together. Teens are so awesome!

The day couldn't have been more perfect. The crowds weren't bad, and the lines were almost non existant. I highly suggest going on a weekday! We headed to Soak City, Kings Island's waterpark for a few hours around 4:00. Most folks were packing up, headed out of there for dinner.  We had a blast on all of the water slides. My favorite is always the slides with tubes.

13745122_1167911439927313_761130344_n (1)

#thebeardedhunk and me.

"Soak City is the premier waterpark in the region. Families can splish, splash and laugh on more than 50 water activities, including 36 water slides, tropical lagoons, rushing rivers, and surfable waves including a 650,000-gallon wave pool, Tidal Wave Bay. Soak City is included with park admission to Kings Island."

13767607_1827599740803979_686181891_n

After that, we headed back to Kings Island for about five trips in the Dodgem cars, and many more coasters! Who doesn't love a good bumper car ride! It was especially fun chasing all these guys around. For dinner we headed to Festhaus to get some pizza for our gluten free friend, and some regular pizza for the rest of the gang. Me, I ate Coney Potato Works, A.L.L. D.A.Y. yeah, snacks, dinner, all day. What can I say, I'm a sucker for fresh cut fries, and malt vinegar, my favorite!

Helpful Tip: Coney Potato Works is GLUTEN FREE!

"This GLUTEN-FREE location offers gluten-free fresh cut fries, gluten-free chicken tenders, gluten-free hand-dipped corndogs, gluten-free soft serve ice cream cones and some gluten-free beer choices" Say what?

13649218_854114634688160_884615934_n

The night ended where it started with one last magical trip on the Diamondback just as the sun was setting. It was gorgeous looking over the whole park with the beautiful sunset from the top of  Diamonback's hill. It was the perfect end to the most perfect day. #thebearded hunk and I had a blast with all of these gentlemen who hung out with the parents all day. I was so happy to have been able to go with them, and create some super great memories. I hope we can head back next year for a Firehawk marathon, and some fries, yes, more fries please!

Oh, PS. when we were there, they told us they were unveiling a new ride that Thursday! I'm happy to report Mystic Timbers a new wooden roller coaster is set to open summer 2017! Take a look at this preview, it looks like so much fun! #whatsintheshed

Preparing for a Homeschool Convention

_2.IMG_20160423_111214Photo Credit:Lynne Bellaire Essentials in Writing

Our local homeschool convention has already passed, but I know many of you are still waiting your turn, and have one coming up soon. I put this little plan together for an OINK homeschool mom's night out, and figured you all might appreciate it as well.

Be Prepared.
Save Money.
Be Encouraged.

BE PREPARED:

Pre Register:

- Check for your online registration deadlines.

Prices may vary for Family & Individuals

Don't want to hear anyone speak?  Some conventions like the Great Homeschool Conventions group allow you to shop for free on Thursday, or get
a shopping pass.

Parking

Be sure to check whether your homeschool convention has negotiated parking deals with the local garages. Different garages often offer different prices. Some could require a voucher. Plan ahead for OVERSIZED Vehicles:
6'10" clearence on most garages, 15 passenger vans should call to make
a reservation in some states.

Name & Address Labels:
Signing up for giveaways, newsletters or mailing lists? Print some
address labels with your information, so you can easily stick and go.

Take Notes:
Bring an iPad if you like to type your notes. A notebook, or clipboard
and paper. Whatever your favorite method of taking notes, you'll want
to bring something you so can write down those encouraging tips, and
homeschooling secrets.

Speakers & Special Guests:
Make a copy of the convention speakers (from the website), and sit
down with your highlighter and highlight anything that sounds
interesting to you. Next, narrow down your choices based on time
slots. Put a star next to the speaker you really want to see.
If you're like me, you'll make a note "do not miss" if you really need
to hear what this speaker has to say. Keep in mind, if you can't get
to them all, there will be CDs to purchase from most of the speakers,
but this can add up quick!

SAVE MONEY!

What's your budget?
Have you sat down to really look at how much you spend on curriculum
every year? Sit down, make a list of your needs, wants and
just-want-to-look-at products. Keep impulse spending down, by knowing
your budget.

Make a list of things you really need.
Most of the time you can save on shipping if you purchase the
curriculum at the convention. Research the best price online (Amazon)
that you can pay for an item, and if you're a Prime Member, save your
back if the cost is the same, and just have it shipped to your house.

A Rolling Cart!

Don't be one of those people (ahem, like me) who ends up buying a
rolling cart every time at the convention. If you plan on buying
books, they get heavy very fast. (Skip the backpack, I did that my
first year, and think I'm still paying the price at the Chiropractor).
Other ideas are a suitcase on wheels!

Water & Snacks

Some  conventions sell food, but it is crazy expensive. I always pack a
water bottle and some snacks in my purse. You can pack a lunch, and
leave it in your car. If the weather is nice, you can eat outside on
the stairs, or go back to your car and give your feet a rest!

ENCOURAGEMENT:

The convention can seem very overwhelming. Especially if this is your
first time attending. Take a deep breath and realize that we are all
there for the same reason, to better the lives of our children through
home education.

This may look very different from home to home, but don't be afraid to
step out of your comfort zone and talk with someone new.
You'll find a mix of speakers there, some who are just pushing
products, and some who really want to reach your children with their
style of curriculum. Don't be afraid to walk out of a session, and hit
plan B. Your time is just as valuable as theirs is, and if something
isn't jiving with you, then feel free to move on.

Plan Ahead Events: Season Opener for Randolph Street Market Festival May 28-29 2011 CHICAGO

RSM-logoWarhol-hires

Chicago's favorite vintage market, The Randolph Street Market Festival, officially kicks off its summer season May 28th and May 29th at Plumbers Hall at 1340 West Washington. The monthly event is expected to attract tens of thousands of fans over the course of five weekends this summer.

"The amount of enthusiasm for vintage has exploded in the last few years," says Randolph Street Market Festival Producer and Executive Director Sally Schwartz. "Chicago knows Randolph Street Market Festival is the place to find the best of vintage and that's why its not uncommon to see the lines forming early at these events."

Schwartz says the search for the unique, as well as an increasing desire to re-purpose, re-use and re-cycle are some of what's leading the move to vintage. But its also the fun experience of the event.

"If you've been to the Randolph Street Market Festival, you know its about vintage, but its also about food, people, music and having a really good time," Schwartz says. "It's the experience that satisfies."

The Randolph Street Market Festival is home to the world-renowned Chicago Antique Market and Indie Designer Market. Moreover, new to the event this year is FREE furniture delivery in downtown Chicago (with a minimum purchase), plus fancy food market featuring chocolates, cakes, breads, spices, olive oils and salsa and a global goods bazaar delighting Chicagoans with crafts and artisan goods representative of Chicago’s ethnic neighborhoods.

More information is available on the web at www.randolphstreetmarket.com.
